Moving to Ibiza our experience after 3 years

So you have plans to make a move to Ibiza or another place in paradise? We moved 3 years ago and we would love to share our first 3 years in Ibiza with you. Are you ready to pack your bags and move?

Summer in Ibiza

We never in a million years would say that we’re glad that the summer is over. When we came here on holiday, we loved every moment of the hectic and buzzing lifestyle of Ibiza. But when you are living here full time and running a business in Ibiza, things are slightly different. First of all, you have to prepare for the heat. Productivity drops to zero and all your friends from back home are coming over to visit you. So one thing we really learned is that when your friends are over, make sure that you let them stay in a hotel and let them rent their own car. Because they think that you have all the time in the world and that you can drive them around. Protect yourself from your invading friends:) Don’t get us wrong, we love to have people over but when you need to work, it can be hard.

Running a business

We started The Workout Club Ibiza 2 months after we arrived to live in Ibiza full time. And nothing is like you are used to from back home. For example you need to get a good gestor who will handle all your taxes. Spain is the only country in the world who can raid your bank account when they feel that you owe them money.

So the first thing you need to do is keep just sufficient money in your account to run your business and pay your bills. You wouldn’t want the situation that one day your hard-earned money is taken by the Hacienda ( The Spanish tax).

The Ibiza Lifestyle

The great thing about living on an island is that you meet new people very fast. Especially in winter there are great social gatherings from street markets, parties and events. Here in Ibiza you meet up on Sunday with friends for a beach picnic or you just book a table at a restaurant and have dinner and a boogie afterwards. One of our personal highlights of the year is the Children of the 80’s party at the Hard Rock Hotel. Only in Ibiza do you have cave parties, or a BBQ that turns into a wild party. Ibiza never stops surprising us.

Do we miss home?

Ibiza is a small island where everybody knows each other. So sometimes you need to get off the island to get some culture from a real big city. So yes we miss our country occasionally. Family and friends are left behind to start a new adventure. And it is always great to go back, in our case, to Amsterdam.

Take a bike and ride along side the canals. Get our favourite surinam dish or meet up with friends. It is great for a short time, but every time we fly back in and see the stunning coastline, we know that we made the right decision. Ibiza is our home and at this moment in time we would not change it for the world.

We would love to help you to do the same

We made a lot of mistakes and we lost loads of time doing things that in the end worked completely differently. In those years preparing and making the actual move, we have created a system that will help you to make a smooth move to Ibiza or wherever you like to live. We’d love to prevent you from all the mistakes that we made, and help you to prepare well for your adventure. So where do you start.? At the bottom of this post we have a gift waiting for you that will assist you finding a house in Ibiza a bit better and we will take it from there. We are looking forward welcoming you here as a new inhabitant of Ibiza.

    Hi Marissa & Virgil,
    Groeten Peter
